OPERATORS of 25 hotels and tourism establishments in Lagos State have
been charged to court by the state government for allegedly operating
without registration.
Public Relations Officer of the Ministry
of Tourism and Inter-governmental Relations, Mr Adebankole Adu,
disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in
Lagos on Monday.
Adu said the operators were charged to various
magistrates’ courts in the state for carrying out hotel and tourism
businesses without licences granted by the appropriate authority.
He said that such an act was a violation of the provisions of the state’s Hotel Licensing Law 2003, as amended in 2010.
“Registration
of hotels and tourism-related outfits was an internationally accepted
control mechanism evolved by the World Tourism Organisation.
“It is mandatory that all hospitality and tourism establishments operating within Lagos State be registered,” he said.
He
advised other operators of hotels and tourism establishments in the
state that had not fully complied with the provisions of the law to
register with the authority or be blacklisted.
