Attack on Emir of Kano: No arrest yet - JTF, police

THE Joint Task Force (JTF) in Kano has debunked arrest of  gunmen that attack the Emir of Kano, Alhaji (Dr) Ado Bayero, saying no arrest has been made.

This is just as the Kano State police command said it will be premature to begin to comment on any arrest at this stage.

Also, the director of press to the deputy governor, Alhaji Bala Salihu, refuted a statement credited to the deputy governor, Dr Abdullahi Ganduje, that arrest had been made in connection with the attack on the emir.

According to him, “what the deputy governor said was that the security agencies were still investigating the matter and anybody found would be brought to book.

The JTF spokesman, Captain Ikedichi Iwehia, in Kano, on Monday, said so far, no arrest had been made, saying that the issue was still under investigations.

Speaking in the same vein, the state Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Idris, said the attack was under investigation.

Meanwhile, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), on Monday, said the attack on the emir of Kano has exposed the lie in the claim by the Federal Government that its security agencies had been able curtail the activities of violent extremists.

In a statement signed by the NLC acting general secretary, Chris Uyot, the congress said the attack had, once again, questioned the efficacy of security in the country.
