A 38-year-old petty trader, Mrs Hassana Sunday, has dragged her husband,
Mr Jiba Sunday, to court “for not performing his conjugal duties.”
Hassana
told a Garki Customary Court in Abuja, on Tuesday, that her husband had
failed to perform his duty as her lawfully wedded husband.
“My husband has abandoned me for over four years; he has not been touching me,” she told the court.
Hassana said her husband had also neglected the welfare of their children and of the entire family.
“I
have been the only one catering for the children. My husband does not
care to know if the children are going to school or not.
“ He does not even ask whether they feed or not. He has practically left me with the maintenance of the family,” she said.
She
pleaded with the court to dissolve the marriage and to issue a court
order on her husband mandating him to take care of their four children.
Hassana
prayed the court to also allow her the custody of the children, adding
that, “the children are more used to me than their father.”
In
his defence, Sunday said that he did not want the marriage dissolved,
adding that he had spoken to his pastor about the matter.
