Reports from the state, indicated that the accident occurred at Durbundai village, in Takai Local Government Area of Kano State, some kilometres from the border of Jigawa State.
An eyewitness told the Nigerian Tribune that the accident was as a result of a head-on collision between a Toyota Sienna and Ford bus coming from opposite directions, which left 11 dead on the spot.
The eyewitness further stated that there were only two occupants in the Toyota car; a male and a female, adding that “I cannot say the number of people in the Ford.”
When contacted the Birninkudu Local Government Area chairman, Alhaji Khali Ibrahim, confirmed the incident, adding that “the victims were on their way to Tsangaya village in Albasu Local Government Area of Kano State to attend a wedding.”
Alhaji Ibrahim added that three people died in the hospital on the same Saturday, while the remaining two died on Sunday.
He further stated that the nine out of the first 11 received mass burial at Waza village, while two were buried at Unguwar Bashe village, few metres to Waza.
The local government boss stated that his council would be responsible for the medical bills of the ones in the hospital, adding that “as I’m talking to you now we are preparing to transfer two of the victims to Aminu Kano Teaching hospital.”
Kano State governor, Alhaji Sule Lamido, had visited the ones in the hospital and also paid a condolence visit to the families of the deceased.
