THE influx of people working at the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja but residing in Uke, Auta-Baleti, Kuchkau, Masaka, New Nyanya and Mararaba under Karu Local Government Area of Nasarawa State contributed to the prevalence of one chance robbery between Abuja and Keffi metropolis, the Nigerian Tribune can authoritatively reveal.
Investigations by the Nigerian Tribune revealed that the one chance syndicate, operating with private cars, always picked the passengers from any where in Abuja to the aforementioned areas and dispossessed them of their valuables when they got to the flashpoints like Zimbawe, Goshen City, New Nyanya bridge, as well as Sharp Corner Maraba and Auta Balefi along NNPC mega station.
A victim who wanted to remain anonymous told our correspondent that it has become a daily routine for the syndicate, operating along this route, as many innocent souls were killed after they might have been robbed at some of the flashpoints. It was learnt further that impatience of some civil servants and traders sometimes led them into unfortunate circumstance.
According to the victim: “ Some of us may be rushing to board commercial vehicles not even minding whether it is painted with commercial or private colours because Mararaba-Nyanya axis always engulfed in a serious gridlock as from 12 noon till late in the night.
Confirming the story at the weekend, the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Micheal Ada said efforts have been taken to nip the menace in the bud, as those arrested between December 25, 2012 and January 14, 2013 have made useful information to the police.
DSP Ada, who explained that over ten different syndicates have been apprehended in respect of one chance robbery, therefore, warned the people, particularly the workers and traders to be wary of private vehicles and not be in haste whenever they are going back homes in the evening.
