Ekiti State Governor, Kayode Fayemi
The
Federation of Ekiti State Students Union has threatened to embark on a
mass protest if Governor Kayode Fayemi fails to build a modern state
library and pay their 2012 bursary, after 21 days.
The National President of FESSU, Olalere Abajingin, issued this threat in a statement made available to journalists on Sunday.
Abajingin said, “ That the annual
bursary and scholarship award of 2012 be paid to the teeming
beneficiaries within the next 21 days from the date of this release .
“Failure to comply with the above demand,
the entire students of Ekiti State will be left with no other option
than to make their grievances known through a well planned and
coordinated public and mass protest that will be the father of all
protests so far in the land. We give only 21 days!
“If Ekiti, which is hitherto known as
‘Fountain of Knowledge’ in the nation, could not boast of a well
equipped Library with up-to-date technological features and Internet
facilities rather than the merely dignified bookstore here in Ado
Ekiti, then the question of woeful academic performances being
experienced by our students at all levels is not crying for answers.”
Meanwhile, the state government has
disbursed a sum of N21.9m to 450 students of Ekiti origin as part of the
second batch of the 2010/2011 scholarship to students of tertiary
institutions across the country.
A statement by Ekiti State Scholarship
Board stated that the gesture was in line with the eight-point agenda of
the present administration.
