Why Nigeria Won’t Stop Peacekeeping Operations - Commandant

The Commandant of the Nigerian Army Peace Keeping Centre (NAPKC), Maj-Gen. John Samuel Zaruwa, has said that as part of Nigeria’s commitment in addressing insecurity, the federal government would not relent in sending troops to troubled African countries.
He said Nigeria’s intervention in Mali crisis and other African countries was a larger operational plan to ensure that the uprising in those countries no longer fall back to Nigeria.
Gen. Zaruwa disclosed this to journalists during the graduation ceremony of officers and soldiers of 20 Battalion from NAPKC, ahead of their deployment to Darfur region of Sudan on peace keeping.
According to him, “we will continue to support these nations, as long as we have conflict in our region and beyond. It is a commitment on our own part. It is a responsibility for us as a nation, since the world has become a global village.
“The insurgence did not emanate from here, it started from somewhere else and if we don’t stop them now, it will flow into our country.
“An example is Mali where some of these insurgents are trained, if we don’t go to Mali and secure it ensuring that the terrorist base there is destroyed, we will continue to have problems back home.
“I therefore, urge you to ensure that the high standard you have set is reflected in the conduct of your operations in Darfur. You should all remember that, having gone through this training, the Nigeria Army has reposed a high level of confidence in you and expects you to be professional in executing your duties to justify the enormous resources expended on your training” he stressed.
