Executive
Director, Anti-Corruption Network, Dino Melaye, has raised the alarm
over his life, alleging that assassins are after him.
The former House of Representatives
member, who said assassins laid ambush for him at the Central Business
District, Abuja on Monday night, described his escape from them as
dramatic.
Melaye said he escaped unhurt during the attack, noting that his attackers damaged his Bentley car.
He spoke to journalists in Abuja on Tuesday.
The former lawmaker, who said before the
attack, he had reported several threat cases on his life to the
Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Mohammed Abubakar, added that the
Police did not do anything to protect him.
He stated that the various attempts on his life were to make him stop his anti-corruption crusade.
Melaye said, “I wrote the
Inspector-General of Police last year complaining about threats to my
life and asking for security. The office received and acknowledged the
letter, but as I speak to you, there has been no response from the
Nigeria police or the IG’s office.
“I have written to request for security
but they refused to oblige. But I am going to renew my call and if
actually the police are to protect Nigerians, I am a Nigerian by all
standards and I also deserve to be protected, especially when I know
that if you fight corruption, corruption will fight back at you.”
When contacted, the Divisional Police
Officer (Federal Secretariat Police Station), Mr. Jimoh Moshood, a
Superintendent of Police, referred our correspondent to the Spokesperson
of the FCT Command, Ms. Altienne Daniel.
Daniel, however, did not reply to the several calls and text messages to his telephone.
