About five AK-47 rifles were recovered from them and all the guns had been discovered to belong to policemen who were killed on duty at Ajah, Maroko and Lion building Police Stations.
Recovered from the gang are; five AK-47 rifles, 31 AK47 magazine, loaded with 30 rounds of live ammunition and Honda Civic Coupe, marked FST 592BC.
The gang members have been named as; Kazeem Adebola, Yunusa Lateef, Ibrahim Akanbi a.k.a Apo and Oluwale Kosoko a.k.a Omoba.
According to the Commissioner of Police, Prince Umar Manko, the suspects are nabbed after a robbery incident which occurred at Victoria Garden City (VGC), on March, 24, 2013.
His words: “On April, 2013, in a follow up to an armed robbery incident at VGC on March 24, where two of the robbers were shot dead by policemen from Area ‘J’ Command, while others escaped with bullet wounds. On March 30, 2013, SARS, Ikeja operatives led by SP Abba Kyari, in a follow up to the case used a fellow gang member, Yunusa Lateef who had earlier been arrested and transferred from Oyo State Police Command to arrest two of the gang members. One Tosin Ibrahim a.k.a Alfa Uche, now late and Ibrahim Akanbi a.k.a Apo at Isolo area of Lagos.
“They confessed to several robbery operations within the South-West and Ajah/Lekki axis of Lagos, including armed robbery of March 24 at VGC, where they lost two of their gang members; Paul and AY. Eventually on April 11, 2013, Akanbi was used to trance and arrest the gang’s armourer, one Kazeem Adebola at Ayobo area of Lagos, where five AK47 rifles and 31 AK47 magazines fully loaded neatly parked concealed in a specially constructed compartment in a Silver colour Honda Civic Coupe, marked FST 592 BC, were recovered.
“All the five AK 47 rifles recovered from the robbers belong to policemen on duty. Also, another gang member, one Oluwale Kosoko a.k.a Omoba was arrested at his hideout in Ajah on April, 2013. He has made confessional statement that he participated in so many robberies within the South West together with the gang, including the Elemoro robbery, where four policemen were killed. He equally took SARS operatives to several houses they robbed at Ajah and its environs. Efforts have been intensified to arrest other fleeing gang members!”
