The duo who were employees of Vanguard Media
Limited are alleged to have stolen the sum of N2, 024,795 (Two Million
Twenty Four Thousand Seven Hundred and Ninety Five Naira ) from their employer
and, thereby committed an offence punishable under section 287 of the Penal
Code Act cap 532 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004.
The two accused persons pleaded not guilty when
the charge was read to them.
Justice Okeke granted bail to the accused persons in the sum of N3
million each and a surety in like sum. The surety must be resident in Abuja and should depose to
an affidavit of means. The addresses of the sureties are to be verified
by the court registrar and operatives of the Commission.
Counts one and two of the charge read, “That you Dickson Ubi Effah
and Ngozi Anthony from 2007 to 2009 at Abuja in the Abuja Judicial Division of
the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, being employees of Vanguard
Media Limited did agree to do an illegal act to wit: theft and thereby
committed an offence punishable under section 97(2) of the Penal Code Act Cap
534, Law of the Federation of Nigeria 2004.
‘That you Dickson Ubi Effah and Ngozi Anthony from 2007 to 2009 at
Abuja in the Abuja Judicial Division of the High Court of the Federal Capital
Territory did take dishonestly out of the possession of the Vanguard Media
Limited the sum of N1, 065,000.00 (One Million, Sixty Five Thousand Naira )
without its consent and thereby committed an offence punishable under section
287 of the Penal Code Act cap 532 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004.”
The case was adjourned to June 27, 2013 for trial.
