Gunmen kill father, 2 children in Jos

AS Plateau State Government intensifies efforts towards lasting peace in the state, some notorious gunmen in the early hours of Wednesday stormed a village in Jos South local government area of the state and killed the breadwinner of a family and his two his children, while the wife was wounded.
In the past one week rampaging gunmen in the Northern part of Plateau State had so far attacked five villages and snuffed lives out of innocent people, including children.
Nigerian Tribune learnt that the gunmen armed with sophisticated weapons invaded Geyel village in Jos South Local Government  in the early hours of Wednesday and in their usual mode of operation released several gun shots into the air to scare the people from coming out of their abodes.
A source close to the village told Nigerian Tribune that the gunmen without wasting time forced themselves into the deceased’s family house and descended on them. They succeeded in killing the husband, two children and macheted the wife who escaped by the whiskers and is presently receiving treatment at Plateau State Specialist Hospital.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Felicia Anslem who confirmed the attack said the police has commenced  full investigation into the attack and enjoined the people to go about their lawful businesses and report any suspicious moves to the police.
The state Commissioner of Information, Mr. Yiljap Abraham, who also confirmed the unfortunate incident said despite the  resurgence, Plateau is not facing any imminent crisis and not under any imminent attack adding that the attacks were isolated cases which have been dealt with.
“In these attacks  we have arrested seven people so far, we are on the trail of others who are wanted by the security agencies for interrogation to explain their roles in the attacks,” he said.
He  appealed  to the people of Plateau State enjoining them not to panic.
“Plateau  is in  post crisis days. We are  going to strengthen the peace that we have,  we are not going back to dark days,” he assured.
