Inspector petitions AIG over Indian slapping him several times* ASP corners petition

An Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) simply identified as Anyana attached to the AIG Zone 2 office, Lagos has allegedly cornered a petition letter addressed to AIG to himself.
Investigation reveals that one Inspector Friday Igbinoba wrote a petition against an Indian national, Mr Ramnani Marrawin to the AIG, Mamman Tsafe, dated December 3, 2012.
Investigation reveals that the ASP intercepted the letter, signed on the photocopy that the original copy was received by him (Anyana) on same date and failed to pass the letter to the AIG for action.
His action, according to sources was to treat the petition himself as if  the AIG did, with a view to allegedly extort the Indian man.
The petitioner said in an interview that Mr Marrawin slapped him severally on his face, while providing security for him at his resident, at No. 4A, Oko-Awo Street, Victoria Island, Lagos.
``On the 17th Nov., 2012, Mr Ramnani Marrawin asked me to open the pedestrian gate after given an earlier order that the gate should not be open due to the bad condition of the padlock.
``As I was trying to open the main gate, he gave me slaps on my face without any offence. This is what he does always by maltreating other Nigerians working with him as domestic worker.
``I resolved I will not let him go scot free like he did to others. I petitioned the AIG to seek for justice without taking the law into my hands,’’ Igbinoba said.
He explained that without receiving any invitation from Zone 2 command over his petition, the Indian man called him one day to warn him against the petition he sent to the AIG, stressing that such petitions usually goes nowhere.
``Marrawin called me on my mobile phone; I thought he was going to apologize to me. I did not receive any invitation from the AIG’s office over my petition. He told me that he has settled with the AIG and that the AIG told him to relax as the case will go nowhere.
``He mocked me that he knows the police authority more than me. He said that I should stop writing petition against him as no one would do anything against him.
``He claimed he was born in Nigeria, therefore, nothing can happen to him,’’ Igbinoba said.
The petitioner said he visited the Zone 2 command to find out the true position about his petition, stressing that he got the mobile phone number of the ASP supposedly assigned to investigate the case.
Igbinoba said that after putting a call across to the ASP, the officer queried him over his right  to find out the position of  the investigation.
``The ASP asked me who am I to ask him about investigation of the petition. He said he does not owe me any explanation,’’ Igbinoba said.
Meanwhile, AIG Mamman Tsafe said that he was neither aware of the petition nor had any discussion with Marrawin over the petition.
Tsafe spoke to our reporter through the Zonal Police Public Relations Officer (ZPPRO),  Mr Suleiman Lewi, a Superintendent of Police.
Our reporter, who visited the ZPPRO over the case reports that the ASP in question was called by the PRO through a mobile phone number: 08034824278, where they discussed.
At the end of the discussion, the ZPPRO said ``I am sorry the AIG is not aware of the petition. I have just called the officer. He only signs for the letter with his name without AIG’s official stamp.
``The officer now serves in Langbasa Police Division. I advice you request the petitioner to do another petition to the AIG and pass through the right channel’’.
Similarly, Marrawin was contacted for reaction but refused to speak further immediately the caller introduced himself as journalist, saying ``wrong number’’ and hung up the phone.
