Sergeant arrested for robbery in Lagos

Juliana Francis Anti-Robbery policemen, attached to Police headquarters, Zone II, Onikan, Lagos State have arrested a police sergeant for partaking in a robbery at the Ijaniki area of the state.
The sergeant, identified as Joseph Borrow, from Rivers State, was arrested after Anti-Robbery policemen responded to a distress call and rushed to the scene.
There was a gun battle. Other members of the gang escaped, but Barrow was not so lucky.
An AK47 rifle was recovered from him. He is attached to Sports office, Zone 2, Onikan, Lagos.
According to him, he stole the AK47b rifle during the Area C police/soldiers clash at Ojuelegba. Barrow was attached to Area C command, when soldiers attacked the command, freed detainees and looted the station armoury.
Barrow, who was supposed to be part of those protecting the armoury, had also stolen an AK47 rifle. It is believed he had been using it to rob ever since.
The Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG), in charge of Zone II,Mr. Tsafe was said to have been shocked by Barrow’s action and ordered the Secretary of Sport, Zone II, to interview the suspect.
Tsafe also said he wanted to see the release signal, which would show that Barrow was release to go for sports, rather than being attached to one of the stations.
A police source said: “The Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar has heard about the arrest of the sergeant. He is not happy about it. He has ordered any policeman or woman being release from his duty because of sports, must be accounted for by the sport secretary, Zone II.”
