Many injured as train passengers protest hike in fare

*Vandalise newly launched train
Many train passengers were badly injured yesterday at the Agbado Railway Crossing area of Ogun after angry passengers vandalised the recently launched multi-million naira train over hike in fare.

It was learned that the fare was from N150 toN230.
The vandalism of the train occurred barely 24 hours after it was launched by the Federal Government of Nigeria. The passengers pelted, not just the railway staff with stones, but also the train.

Some of the protesters were later arrested by railway policemen.

Eye witnesses claimed that the passengers were not happy with the new increase in train fare.
It was gathered that a few days ago, some of the displeased passengers had embarked on a peaceful protest to the Ebute-Metta Lagos office of the Nigerian, to complain.

Trouble started yesterday morning after the price of the new luxury train was made know. The passengers had kicked against the hike, saying it was too much.

The passengers mobilized and before anybody could say anything, a violent protest ensued and hoodlums joined as they threw stones and other dangerous items on the new train.
Some passengers were reportedly injured, while some officials of the Nigerian Railway Corporation were also injured in the process.
The Deputy Director in charge of communication of the NRC, David Ndakosu confirmed the damage of the new train and also confirmed that “some of the protesters " had been arrested.
