The Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Eboka Friday, on Saturday 26th of March, confirmed that the command has arrested four suspected kidnappers in connection with the murder of a cab driver identified as Onyekachi Obioma Chukwuagu, along East/West Road to Rumuodogo 1 Community in Emohua Local Government Area of the State.
The suspects, Obichi Ngita, 20, Chisom Honest 20, Young Chitu 21 and Omens Woke 23, on Tuesday, 22nd March 2022, while pretending to be regular passengers, boarded the deceased’s vehicle. However, when they got to a quiet part of the route, they kidnapped the victim and abandoned the vehicle, marked GDD 250 MU by the roadside.
The Command upon receipt of the complaint, swiftly mobilised operatives to the scene, where they cordoned off the area and commenced an intensive search resulting in the arrest of Honest. He was then used as bait to catch other members of the gang. He also led the police to the location of the corpse of the driver.
“The suspects claimed they murdered the victim, using a machete, for refusing to cooperate with them. Efforts are being intensified to apprehend other suspects indicted in the matter, with a view to concluding the investigations,” the police stated.
The CP, while condoling the family of the deceased for the unfortunate loss, assured them that the suspects would be arraigned in court on completion of investigation in line with his commitment to the cause of justice.
