PHCN threatens nationwide blackout over severance package

Senior Staff Association of Electricity and Allied Companies (SSAEAC) has given  the government a two-week ultimatum to complete discussions on the payment of severance allowance, gratuity and pensions to employees of Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) or face total nationwide blackout.
SSAEAC, in a statement signed by its National President, Comrade Bede Opara and General Secretary, Comrade Abiodun Ogunsegha and addressed to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator Anyim Pius Anyim,  warned  government of the dangers of not completing the negotiation, stressing that  as long as the issue of severance allowance, gratuity and pensions to employees of PHCN remained unresolved, no new investors can take over the company.
The union emphasised that any attempt by investors to take over the ownership of PHCN without all labour issues adequately resolved would lead to chaos which would be detrimental to national stability.
