THERE are indications that the mad man who killed his five brothers
at Tse Alaigu in Naka, headquarters of Gwer West Local Government Area
of Benue State might have inherited the mental illness from his maternal
family.
According to the submission by his step brother, Daniel Gyado, a
health worker at the council area, who spoke to the Nigerian Tribune at
the village on Wednesday, the mad man, while in secondary school in
2003, exhibited mental illness, though he was treated at the psychiatric
unit of Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Makurdi.
Gyado explained that the mother and his maternal aunt had, at
different times, suffered madness, while his elder sister is currently
being treated for the same illness at an undisclosed place.
He explained that the mad man, until that fateful Sunday, had not
displayed any strange behaviour and expressed shock at the development,
which led to the death of five brothers.
His wife of two years, Phenomena, was short of words and expressed
shock at the strange behaviour of her husband that fateful Sunday.
According to her, “I was in my family place to plait my hair when I
was called that my husband had stabbed five people to death.”
