Truck crushes auto parts dealer in Lagos

The Toyota bus stop area.
A truck moving on the Oshodi-Apapa Expressway, Lagos, on Tuesday crushed an auto spare parts dealer.
Our correspondent learnt that the incident happened at about 1pm at the Toyota bus stop area of the expressway.
The man, whose name could not be ascertained, was said to be crossing to the other side of the road when the truck rammed into him.
It was also gathered that the victim was returning from an outing when he was knocked down by the truck.
On a visit to the scene of the incident, an eyewitness, Ahmed Kolawole, told PUNCH Metro that the victim was not a regular face in the area.

He added that the weather was cloudy and people were anxious to avoid the rain when the incident happened.
He said, “It happened around 1pm when it was about to rain. People were many on the roadside and were eager to cross. In the process, a truck hit the man and cut his leg. I just hope he survives because the damage was so much. He was barely breathing.”
An official of the National Union of Road Transport Workers in the area, who identified himself simply as Biodun, said passersby were able to stop the truck driver.
He added that some people around the area and one of the persons on board the truck took the victim to a hospital.
“He was returning from where he went to buy spare parts. His condition is serious but we were able to stop the driver. Some people in this area have taken him to a general hospital. One of the men in the truck also followed them,” he said.
It was learnt that the police had seized the truck and taken it away.
“Some policemen came to take the truck away before it started raining. I think the driver also followed them,” one of the eyewitnesses said.
