Confusion as man dies by roadside

There was confusion in Osogbo, Osun State on Thursday following the death of a man whose identity is yet to be known by the roadside.
Residents of the Odi Olowo area, where the incident happened, told our correspondent that the man collapsed by the roadside on Monday and eventually died there on Thursday.
While some claimed that the deceased was an insane person, others said he was drunk and slumped due to the influence of alcohol in his system.

A commercial motorcyclist, who identified himself as Rafiu Akanmu, told our correspondent that the deceased was a mad man and was unable to walk because of the wound on his leg.
He said, “Probably he became sick and could no longer move away from the roadside. I saw him yesterday, he was still alive. I heard that some people gave him food and water but he could not eat or drink.
“I watched him closely and observed that he soiled his trousers. This might have made people not to go closer to him.”
Another resident told our correspondent that the Commissioner for Information, Mr. Sunday Akere, and his counterpart in the Ministry of Environment, Prof. Olubukola Oyawoye, visited the scene and had arranged for the evacuation of the corpse from the road.
The Commissioner for Health, Dr. Temitope Ilori, when contacted, said the death of the man had nothing to do with Ebola while urging residents of the state to go about their business without fear.
She said, “The corpse would be evacuated very soon and necessary post-mortem would be carried out on his remains to determine the cause of his death.”
