Command rescues 19 kidnap victims, recover ammunition

The Edo State Police Command on Monday said it had rescued no fewer than 19 kidnap victims and recovered 329 ammunition, while seven suspected kidnappers operating in Edo, Delta and Bayelsa states were arrested.
The Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Zone 5, AIG Musa Daura, who said this while briefing journalists on the achievements of the commands under the zone from August to September, 2014, explained that 14 of the victims were rescued in Delta, one in Edo states, while four were rescued in Bayelsa State.

Daura stated that six of the suspected kidnappers were apprehended in Delta and Bayelsa states, adding that 149 police/military ammunition were recovered from the three states under the command.
The AIG said, “Also, 68 suspected armed robbers were arrested, 11 were killed while 38 locally-made guns, 142 cartridges, 32 stolen vehicles and five stolen motorcycles were recovered by the commands in the periods under review.
“Fourteen suspected cultists, four suspected sea pirates, five murder suspects, two pipeline vandals and two power cables vandals were arrested.”
The AIG attributed the success of the commands to intelligence gathering and other proactive measures provided by the zone, which included constant raiding of criminal hideouts, intensive visibility patrol, synergy and collaboration with sister security agencies in intelligence sharing, stop and search and prompt response to distress calls.
While commending the residents in the three states for their cooperation, Daura said, “When compared to the previous quarter, the level of achievements recorded are significant.”
He also called for more collaboration from residents in the provision of useful information to enhance the services of the security agency.
“The command wants to reassure the residents within the zone that the war against crime and criminality within the ember months will be intensified,” he said.
