ONE person was burnt to death early Thursday morning in a fire
incident, which razed the guest house of the Emir of Dass, Alhaji Usman
Bilyaminu Othman, at the GRA in Bauchi.
The deceased, a 40-year-old Murtala Mohammed Othman, was, according to a statement made available to journalists in Bauchi by the state police command’s spokesman, Haruna Mohammed, trapped in the building and got burnt to death in the process.
According to the statement, the fire incident, which engulfed the whole building, occurred at about 3.00a.m, adding that while the deceased was trapped, his wife, Zuwaira, and two children sustained varying degree of injuries in the incident.
“On Thursday, at about 0300 hrs, there was a fire outbreak at the Emir of Dass guest house, GRA Bauchi, which engulfed the entire building. As a result, one Murtala Mohammed Othman, male, 40 years, was trapped and burnt to death while the wife, Zuwaira and two children sustained various degrees of injuries,” the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) said.
Mohammed, a Deputy Superintendent of Police ((DSP), further informed that police patrol teams, led by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of GRA Division of the state command, visited the scene of the accident, adding that both Bauchi State Fire Service and The Federal Polytechnic Fire Services were contacted to put off the fire.
He stated that the victims were rushed to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH), Bauchi, for medical attention, adding that the entire area had been cordoned off to secure the property from looters who might cash in on the opportunity to steal.
The PPRO added that investigation into the incident was in progress to ascertain the cause of the inferno.
