At last
five persons were killed while several houses and farmlands were
destroyed in Funture village of Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau
State during a communal clash. The state Police Public Relations Officer
(PPRO), DSP Habu Emmanuel, who confirmed the incident, said a
detachment of Mobile policemen had been sent to the area to restore
normalcy. Emmanuel said that a fight broke out between Iregwe and Rukuba
people over a protracted land dispute. He said: “No fewer than 10
people were killed in the village during the last crisis in March.”
It was alleged that Iregwe people launched the attack on Rukuba
settlement because the attackers were speaking the Iregwe language when
they invaded the village. According to the police, the attackers
sophisticated guns and other assorted weapons during the attack. The
spokesperson of Rukuba community, Mr Madaki Aboy, said they were
attacked.
