Worker steals N8m to cover salary arrears

Worker steals N8m to cover salary arrears
A member of staff who said he was owed several months by his company, has cleverly taken over N8 million goods from his company and declared that the money accrued from the goods was money for his salary arrears.
Adeboye Adefolahan, 40, alleged that he obtained a credit to the tune of N8, 159,684.00 from his employers and since he was unable to pay back, he told his company to use the money to cover the salary owed him.
Adefolahan, who is a staff with Justine Pharmaceutical Company Limited, said he was owed several months of salaries by the firm.
Appearing before an Ikeja Magistrate’s Court in Lagos yesterday, the prosecutor,
Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), Samson Ekikere, explained that Adefolahan was arrested and arraigned in court because he had, on March, 8, 2010, deceived the company into obtaining goods valued at the said amount on credit. An offence he said is punishable under section 312(b) vol. 44 No. 11 Law of Lagos State.
Quoting from the charge sheet No. MIK/A/129/14, Ekikere said the accused, on the same date, time and place in the aforementioned Lagos magisterial district did commit stealing and punishable under section 285 (i) vol. 44, No. 11 Law of Lagos, 2011.
Ekikere told the court that the severity of the charges was further highlighted after the accused issued a cheque to the company when he knew he had no money in his account. “The cheque, when presented for payment, was dishonored on grounds that no funds were available.
This offence is also punishable under section 319 of the law of Lagos,” said the Prosecutor. Presiding magistrate, Mrs. E.A Fabanwo admitted the accused on bail, on most liberal terms.
The accused was asked to pay the N200, 000 bail fee, provide two sureties who are gainfully employed with their full addresses. Fabanwo adjourned the case till January 28, 2015
