Four arrested over killing of five men in Lagos

Detectives attached to the Homicide’s section of the State Criminal Investigations Department (SCID), Panti, Lagos State, have arrested four persons over the killing of five members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), who were shot dead by members of a faction of the Union along the Lekki-Ajah Expressway.
The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officers (PPRO), Kenneth Nwosu said that four persons have been arrested in connection with the killing of the NURTW members.
According to the image maker, the four suspects, identified as Peter Clement. Yusuf Sanni, Aliyu Yusuf. and Ogboduwa were arrested on Friday at different locations within the metropolis. Nwosu said that the suspects were already undergoing interrogation.
It would be recalled that the five victims were killed on Wednesday night while returning from a naming ceremony at the Ajah area of the metropolis.
The slain men have been identified as Samson, Ganiyu, Idris, Ladi and one other.
Eye witness claimed that the factional gunmen stopped their men chartered bus and shot each of them point blank.
It was gathered that the members of the slain men, filled with grieve and anger, mobilised and made plans to carry out a reprisal attack on the relatives of the assailants on the Island.
The union members, who went on the rampage to protest the death of the five men, attacked traders and residents of the popular Olokodana family house on the Island.
It was learnt that one Seego, who was alleged to have caused the crisis that led to the killing of the five men, took to his heels and disappeared from the Lagos Island.
A source on the Island said: “Information going round however is that relatives of the deceased and other aggrieved youths have concluded plans to deal with him.”
It was further gathered that some politicians in the state have been blamed for the incessant killings and clashing between the miscreants popularly known as area boys. It was alleged that the politicians were the people who used to arm such members of NURTW with weapons.
A man, who does wishes to be named, said: “Politicians should be blamed for these senseless killings and shooting on the Lagos Island. Most of them use these hoodlums to foment trouble carry out assassinations, kidnappings, robberies and other crimes for their selfish interest!”

The source added: “The different groups, including relatives of the deceased, sympathizers and the perpetrators of the killings alleged that Seego was responsible for most of the death of youths in the area. Youths on the Island have vowed to deal with him.”
They blamed political leaders of both All Progressive Party (APC) and People Democratic Party (PDP) for the incessant crisis among the miscreants, adding that “When police raid or invade the hideouts of these criminals or arrest them while perpetrating bad act, these leaders will make calls to the superiors officers who will now order the police officers to release them.”
