Man bags 28 Months Jail Term For N15m Land Scam

Umar

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on June 11, 2015, secured the conviction of Usman Salisu Umar, who was brought before Justice Dije Aboki of the Kano State High Court, on three count charge bordering on criminal breach of trust and forgery.

Umar was arrested in 2013 by operatives of the EFCC following a petition received from Alhaji Jibrin Umar, who alleged that sometimes in May 2013, Umar sold his landed property at Plot 1258 located at Kawaji Quarters, Kano, without his authorisation.

The convict was alleged to have impersonated the son of the petitioner and sold the land to Alhaji Alhassan Idris, at the sum of N15 million, presenting a forged authority letter and sales agreement papers purportedly signed by the landowner.
In her judgment, Justice Aboki, noted that “the prosecution counsel has proved the charges against the convict beyond reasonable doubt.”

“I find the accused guilty of all the three charges and consequently sentence him to one year imprisonment or to pay a fine of N250,000 fine for count one,” the judge ruled. “On count two he is sentenced to 10 months imprisonment or pay a fine of N200,000.00 and on the last count he is sentenced to six months or to pay a fine of N100,00.”
