‘Obasanjo to be poisoned through drink’

The Media Aide to Senator Buruji Kashamu, Mr. Austin Oniyokor, yesterday insisted that the story flying about that a lady, posing as the daughter of former president Olusegun Obasanjo, approached Kashamu with the aim of getting payment to kill the ex-president, was not the true picture of what transpired.

Stating that the news was just a tip-of the iceberg, Oniyokor, revealed that the lady, Victoria Alaegbu and her accomplice, Peter Uwakala, were supposed to poison Obasanjo through his drink while he played the Ayo game. But the quick wittedness of Kashamu put pay to the plan.

It was gathered that immediately Obasanjo sighted the lady who posed as daughter, he had slapped her, asking why she went to his enemy to plot to harm him.

Oniyokor said that the suspects in their statements never denied approaching Kashamu with such a proposal, adding that even the Police, according to a Police Report, also confirmed that the accused persons, committed the alleged offences against them.

The image maker also noted that there were also an associate and relation of the former President who witnessed the whole scenario.

Oniyokor said: “All these facts are contained in public documents before the Chief Magistrate Court 1, Igbosere, Lagos.”
It will be recalled that on Wednesday, detectives attached to the Zone II Police Headquarters, Onikan, Lagos State, released information about the arrest of Alaegbu, who posed as the daughter of Obasanjo, demanding money from Kashamu in order to poison her supposed ‘father.’
The police said that the lady presented herself as Yetunde Obasanjo. She was accompanied by Uwakala and allegedly met the senator in a hotel, where, the lady introduced herself as one of Obasanjo’s daughters.
The man, who accompanied her, introduced himself as one of the intelligence officers of the former president. The duo allegedly called the former president names and urged Kashamu to allow them to poison him, allegedly in exchange for some money.
A police source said: “Before they talked about causing harm to Obasanjo, they said they wanted to resolve the political rift between Kashamu and Obasanjo.”
Rather than grabbed at the chance to deal with his enemy, the senator who was suspicious of the lady and man, alerted policemen. While the suspects were still waiting to hear from him, it was the police they heard from.
The police said: “The suspects met with the senator at a hotel in Victoria Island, Lagos, on May 8, 2015, where they demanded for an unspecified amount from him in order to harm Obasnajo. The X-Squad section of Zone II was detailed to handle the investigation and we soon arrested Uwakala and Alaegbu. We later found out that they were not impersonators. They told the senator they were going to resolve the political rift between him and Obasanjo. He said the suspects met him at Best Western Hotel, Ahmadu Bello Way, Victoria Island, where they made uncomplimentary and derogatory remarks about Obasanjo. They said the ex-president was bad and wicked, that most of his workers hate him and wouldn’t mind to poison him if they get the opportunity.”

Oniyokor said the suspects actually meant business, stressing that all they wanted was to be given money to carry out their evil plot and then be handsomely rewarded thereafter.
“It should be stated that in all his life and politics, Kashamu never plotted with anyone to harm a soul. It was when he could not stomach all that the point man, Nwalaka, was telling him on the phone each time he called that he agreed to meet him in the presence of one of the relations of the former president, Princess Folashade Omotade, who had been trying to make peace between him and Chief Obasanjo.”

Oniyokor noted that the said Princess Omotade attended the meeting with another aide of Obasanjo whom Kashamu introduced as his sister and brother. Kashamu urged the impostors to freely say anything before his brother and sister that he trusted them.

Oniyokor recounted: "It was before the very eyes of Princess Omotade and Obasanjo’s aide that the lady and man began to say all manner of things about the former President. They said they could poison Obasanjo since they were close to him. Nwalaka showed various pictures of his close engagements with Chief Obasanjo and Victoria who was introduced as Yetunde Obasanjo, said she had an unfettered access to the former President and could easily harm him. Nwalaka also spoke of how Obasanjo used to leave his drinks while playing the Ayo game. Nwalaka said that the drinks could be easily used to harm him.”

Oniyokor explained that it was after the duo unveiled their evil plot that Kashamu invited the Police and they were arrested.
The Police investigation team was led by an Assistant Commissioner of Police, Mr. Sola Akinyede of the Zone II Police Command, Onikan, Lagos.
“During the investigation, the suspects were taken to the Abeokuta residence of the former President who, upon seeing Victoria, screamed and asked why she would go to his enemy with the intention of harming him. He then hit her in the head and told the Police to jail her for five years because if they did not, God knows how many top Nigerians that would be wasted by them.”

Oniyokor disclosed that it was then that Obasajo said he couldn’t believe that Kashamu could be so magnanimous.

“The former president then told Princess Omotade that he had forgiven Kashamu of any grudge he had against him. She, in turn, prevailed on Kashamu to withdraw the N20 billion libel suit that he had instituted against Chief Obasanjo,” recalled Oniyokor.

The spokesman continued: “As an honourable man, Senator Kashamu did and the rest, as they say, is history. The Senator has dedicated his life to doing good to all manner of people, at all times, without fear or favour. He is not about to change irrespective of whatever anybody says or does to him because, according to him, God has been good to him. He believes that the almighty God will surely reward every man according to his deeds.”
