Police officer held for shooting Road Safety officer

A policeman attached to the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), Ikeja, Lagos State Police Command has been arrested for shooting an official of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC).

The arrested SARS operative has been identified as Sergeant Akuku Chris. The altercation between Chris and the Road Safety officer occurred along Lagos/Ijebu Road.
The quarrel between the two men was said to have snowballed into each other saying their work was more important than the other.
Before one knew what was happening, angry Chris shot the Road Officer on the leg. The Road Safety fell to the ground, screaming in pain as blood gushed out from his injured leg.
Chris was among five policemen that went to Port Harcourt to recover a truck in an ongoing investigation.
When they got to the Lagos/Ijebu Road, the truck developed fault.
The five SARS operatives tried to push, but it was futile. They were making attempts to locate a towing vehicle, when the Road Safety officer and other of his colleagues came to the scene.
The Road Safety officials ordered them to immediately move the truck off the road.
The policemen explained that they were policemen from Port Harcourt and that they were looking for a towing van. The policemen were also said to have presented their Identity cards.
The Road Safety officials further demanded for the truck’s particulars.
A source said: “It was at that point that the argument started. Yes, when the Road Safety officials demanded for the particulars of the truck. They didn’t care that the five men were police officers. Soon, both party started having argument over who was superior to the other. The Road Safety official that was shot was more forward and hostile than others. The sergeant just opened fire and shot him on his leg. The Road Safety was stupid! You don’t argue with a man holding a rifle.”
It was gathered that the policemen would have sail home free, but the leader of their team, ensured that Chris was arrested and handed over to policemen at Eleweran Police Station.  The Road Safety official is still at the hospital.
