Rivers Police clamp down on robbers, cultists





The Rivers State Police Command has arrested some suspected armed robbers, cult members and kidnappers across the state.

 The State’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Ahmed Muhammad said that the suspects were arrested at different locations in the state for various crimes committed.
According to Muhammad, on May, 17, 2015, along East- West Road, a team of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), responding to a distress call, arrested one David Nwoka with Toyota Camry Car. The car was said to have been snatched at gun point.
One AK47 rifle, ammunitions, pump action gun and 11 cartridges were recovered from the suspects.
Muhammad further said: “On May, 31 at Rumuekini in Port Harcourt, a team of policemen who were acting on a tip-off engaged the robbers in a gun duel. We also arrested 31 suspected cultists. Three pump action guns, 80 cartridges and charms were also recovered from them.”
The spokesperson added that the Anti-cult Unit of the Command also stormed some criminal hideout and arrested five persons. Five locally made guns were recovered from them. “The onslaught against the robbers and the cult group was made possible with assistance from members of the public and commitment from the officers of the command,” said Muhammad.
