*Worker: The kidnap was like scene out of Hollywood
movie
Fresh facts have emerged about the abduction of a
Nigerian medical doctor from a hospital located at Keffi, Ikoyi, Lagos State,
by armed men.
Contrarily to report that the doctor was abducted on
Saturday, New Telegraph can authoritatively revealed that the abduction of the
doctor, who is the Chief Medical Director of St. François Medical Centre, Ikoyi,
occurred on Friday.
Ironically, the hospital is situated beside Mobile
Policemen from Mopol 2 Barracks, Keffi, Lagos. The doctor was abducted by five
armed men.
According to eye witnesses’ accounts, the five men,
arrived the hospital, looking frantic and worried.
They explained to security guards and hospital staff
that their brought a sick friend, who urgently needed medical attention. When
the Chief Medical Director came out, the supposed sick friend miraculously
became well and within a twinkle of an eye, the gang had abducted the CMD. It
was gathered that the CMD was about to leave the hospital, when the fake
patient was brought to the hospital.
A source at the hospital said: “The Chief Medical
Director was about to leave the hospital when the fake sick patient was rushed
into the hospital. In an attempt to save his wife, the CMD rushed him into the
emergency ward, followed by two nurses. The doctor and the nurses were about to
attend to him, when his colleagues, whipped out their guns and marched the CMD
to their vehicle. They immediately zoomed off.”
Another worker at the hospital, who also doesn’t
want his name mentioned, said: “It was like a scene straight out of Hollywood
movie. We all thought they were patients who came for medical assistance.”
The worker explained
that the abduction would have been averted if the gunmen had stormed the
hospital premises, shooting. They however came under a guise, pretending they
had a patient.
The worker said: “If they come into the hospital
shooting, Mobile Policemen from Mopol 2 would have responded and probably arrested
some of them. Since the abduction, the gunmen had not contacted the hospital
management or doctor’s family member. The incident also did not deter patients
from coming to the hospital to seek for medical attention.”
It was
gathered that immediately the gunmen left the hospital, the matter was reported
at Onikan Police Station, along Awolowo way Ikoyi.
A trader in the area, who simply identified herself
as Khadijat said: “On that fateful day, I was going to buy kerosene from a
nearby petrol station when I saw some men driving out of the hospital. When I
was returning from the petrol station, I saw about five police patrol vans and
some tricycle riders at front of the hospital. Some hospital staff was
screaming.”
When our correspondent visited the hospital
yesterday, some of the patients were seen being escorted in and out of the
hospital with policemen. Some of the staff and patients were also seen
discussing about the incident in hush tunes.
