‘I bought gun to protect myself from cultists’

An 18-year-old 200Level student of Civil Engineering, Abia State University, Divine Mgbeneme has told policemen that he bought a gun in order to protect himself from being attacked and beheaded by some students on campus.

The undergraduate, was arrested after policemen, who were on ‘Stop and Search’ duty, frisked his bag and found a locally- made gun. Mgbeneme was arrested on November 16, at Ofeme Bridge on the Enugu Port Harcourt Expressway, Ohuhu, Umuahia North Local Government Area ofAbia State.
Police accused him of being in unlawful possession of arms and ammunition. The state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Leye Oyebade, said: “The suspect was arrested during a ‘Stop- and-Search’ operation on the expressway. He was in a commercial bus.
