LASU students protest call up letters delay

Students of the Lagos State University, Ojo, who were supposed to embark on their National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), on Wednesday, carried out a peaceful protest, over delay of their call up letters.

The call up letter is the list of postings for the outgoing students to different states to serve their fathers’ land.

The students, who had anxiously waited and prayed for the school to call off its strike, embarked upon over increase in school fees, were apparently worried that they might fail to meet up with other schools in the next batch of the NYSC programme.

FRSC promoted eight officers, charged to be honest

The Gombe Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Mr. Galadima Kuteb, yesterday, charged all newly promoted officers of the Command to be hard working and honest in discharging their duties.

Kuteb made the call while decorating the officers who were recently promoted from the rank of Assistant Route Commanders to Deputy Route Commanders in the Command.

One of the survivors of the ill-fated Associated Airlines that crashed, carrying the remains of former Minister of Aviation, Chief Olusegun Agagu, Mrs. Oluwatoyin Samson, recounted her ordeal in the hands of the management of the airline, alleging that the carrier abandoned her.

The accident which occurred less than a minute after take-off, inside the Murtala Muhammed Airport, Lagos, on October 3, 2013,  killed many on board, but four people miraculously survived.

Samson was one of the people at the second Engr. Zakariya Haruna memorial lecture held in Lagos. Haruna was the pioneers Director General of the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) when the agency was created in 1999. He died in 2003.

Fake policeman held in Ogun

Police in Ogun State have arrested a 35-year-old man, Taiwo Agboola, for allegedly parading himself as a policeman.
The suspect was nabbed with fake uniform and accoutrements by police detectives attached to the Otta Division of the command.
The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Muyiwa Adejobi, who confirmed this in a statement yesterday, said the suspect had been placed under surveillance for some time before he was eventually arrested.
Adejobi, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, disclosed that items recovered from the suspect included a police T-shirt, identity card bearing his name with a corporal rank, hand cuff and tear gas.

Navy Hands over Suspected Oil Thieves, Vessel to EFCC

The Nigerian Navy Central Command, Yenagoa on Thursday July 31, 2014 handed over sixteen suspected oil thieves and a vessel, MV MARO to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, for further investigation and prosecution.

 According to the Commanding Officer, Navy Captain N.M. Madugu, the vessel and the suspects were arrested on July 22, 2014 at Agbara, Yenagoa.

Following the appointment of Ag. IGP Suleiman Abba, NPM, NPOM, mni  as the 17^th Indigenous Inspector-General of Police by President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, GCFR, the new Inspector-General of Police has today, August 1, 2014 formally taken over from former Police boss, IGP MD Abubakar             (Rtd) who had successfully piloted the affairs of the Force from                25^th January, 2012 when he was appointed to July 31, 2014, having completed 35 years of service.

 

The new IGP who hails from Gwaram Local Government Area of Jigawa State holds degrees in History and Law and has attended several management and security courses within and outside Nigeria. He is an alumnus of the National Institute of Policy and Strategic Studies, Kuru, Jos.

Ebola virus: IG orders Police Medical Corps to protect personnel

Following the breakout of the Ebola virus in Nigeria, the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Mohammed Abubakar, has ordered the Police Medical Corps do everything within its power to protect personnel and their families.

According to a source, Abubakar does not want police officers to become victims of the Ebola virus, so that the security of the nation would not become weakened.

The IGP’s order came after speculation from some experts, those members of the police force might be highly infected if the breakout was not checked, because, “policemen and women are the first contact at everywhere in Lagos State,” said a security expert, who wishes to remain anonymous.
