There was
pandemonium at Ile-Epo bus stop along Lagos-Abeokuta Road on Thursday night
when a trigger happy police Inspector shot dead a yet to be identified man.
Residents
around the area who were returning to their homes after the close of the day’s
work scampered for safety as they initially had no clue of what the gun shot
was all about.
Few seconds
after, a man was found in the pool of his own blood after allegedly being shot
by a policeman later identified as Inspector Ibrahim Abdullahi.
Ibrahim
Abdullahi who it was gathered has spent 28 years in service was until the
incident, attached to Elere Police Division.
Unconfirmed
sources revealed that a complainant who is yet to be identified too approached
Inspector Ibrahim to help in cajoling the deceased in releasing his car tyres
when the incident happened.
It was
gathered that the deceased was holding on to the complainant’s car tyres for
unknown reasons but in order to fast-track the release of the tryes, the
complainant sought the help of Inspector Ibrahim.
It was
gathered that when Inspector Ibrahim and the complainant got to the deceased
place, an argument ensued between them and without much ado, Inspector Ibrahim
pulled the trigger and shot the deceased.
Eye witnesses
accounts revealed that immediately Inspector Ibrahim pulled the trigger,
confusion ensured and the deceased died before help could come his way.
While
confirming the incident, the Commissioner of Police Prince Umar Manko said the
earring policeman acted against the conduct of the force.
Prince Manko
who stated that the shooting was an accidental discharge, added that the
Inspector did not put on his rifle safety catch. He explained that while the
argument ensued between the parties, the rifle fell from the Inspector’s hand,
hit the ground and immediately discharged. The bullet got the deceased.
According to
him, the policeman who is now being detained at the State Criminal
Investigation Department (SCID)Panti,Yaba, Lagos, will undergo
an orderly room trial, adding that the
command would make public the report of the trial.
