Osun CP inaugurates robot patrol vehicles for effective policing

IN a bid to ensure a peaceful and crime-free state, as well as effective policing, the Osun State Police Commissioner, Dorothy Gimba, has inaugurated 20 Robot Patrol Vans, supported with the release of a standard operation procedure (SOP) to respond to armed robbery, distress calls and other social disorder.
The police commissioner has also dispatched robot patrol vehicles to various locations within the state to rid it of criminality.
Commending the efforts of the Osun State governor, Mr Rauf Aregbesola, for the donation of the 20 patrol vehicles to the Osun Police Command of the Nigeria Police Force, Gimba said that the logistic support would go a long way in boosting the capacity of the command to checkmate criminal activities.
While speaking at the inauguration, which had in attendance high-ranking police officers, comprising the management team, Divisional Police Officers, Inspectors/rank and file within the state command, the Osun State police boss stated that the inauguration became paramount owing to the command’s resolve to fight crime and other crime-related matters to the barest minimum.
While expressing the command’s readiness to make the state hot for criminals, Gimba assured Osun State citizens  that the patrol vehicles would provide 24 hours motorised patrol, adding that the sole purpose was not only to guarantee visible policing but to ensure prompt response to distress calls, and ensure vehicular police presence throughout the command.
She charged the Divisional Police Officers whose divisions were given the vehicles to ensure the judicious use of it. While stressing the need for attitudinal change, the police commissioner charged officers and men of the command to be diligent and ensure the success of this operation.
She added: “I therefore enjoin all officers and men that will be involved in this patrol to display very high level of professionalism, civility and shun corruption in its entirety.”
This, she said, would restore hope in the members of the public  and a  renewed confidence in the ability of the police in protecting life and property of the people of the state.
She urged them to internalise and abide by the code of conduct which was part of the transformation agenda of the Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar.
