The most recent ex-wife of Pulitzer Prize winning novelist Cormac McCarthy was arrested for domestic violence Saturday after she pulled a silver handgun from her genitals to threaten her boyfriend during an argument about space aliens.
Jennifer McCarthy was arrested and held at the Santa Fe County jail in New Mexico on a charge of aggravated assault on a household member. She has since been released on $5,000 bail.
The 48-year-old artist has one child with Cormac McCarthy, 80, whose notable works include The Road and No Country for Old Men. The couple divorced in 2006 and the writer has not remarried.
According to a lurid police report filed in the local Magistrate Court, Jennifer McCarthy’s newest beau claimed the couple had been arguing about space aliens and using the gun as a sex toy.

He said McCarthy left the couple's home on Aventura Road in Santa Fe following the row but then returned, changed into her lingerie, before performing a sex act with the gun.
He claims she then asked: 'Who is crazy, you or me?' before taking the gun and pointed it at his head.
The boyfriend, who was not identified in the police statement, grabbed the gun after she pointed it at his head. He said he was afraid she was going to pull the trigger.
He then went into the bathroom and put the gun in the toilet. He claims that when McCarthy went to retrieve the gun, he got it himself and put it in a trash can outdoors.
A deputy, who was dispatched to the house about 10:50 am after reports of a disturbance, found a silver Smith and Wesson gun in the bin.

The deputy arrested McCarthy and booked her on the aggravated assault charge, according to the Albuquerque Journal.
McCarthy admitted having a gun but maintained it had been 'missing for a while'.
McCarthy acknowledged she had argued with her boyfriend earlier in the morning and that they had yelled 'at each other and he told her not to touch him again', the deputy's report states.
But she did touch the boyfriend's shoulder 'with her index finger to aggravate him' and he put his hand on her neck but let go quickly. She told the deputy she hadn't been afraid the boyfriend would strangle her.
The deputy's report did not quote McCarthy as addressing the veracity of her boyfriend's account of her use of the gun.
