Robbers attack estate in Ogun, kill RCCG pastor

Tunde Olawuwo
A gang of armed robbers stormed Redstar Estate in the Magboro area of Ogun State on Sunday, killing a senior pastor with the Redeemed Christian Church of God.
PUNCH Metro learnt that the victim, Tunde Olawuwo, was killed by the robbers for refusing to cooperate with them.
It was learnt that Olawuwo, who was the area pastor in RCCG Mount Zion Parish, Agiliti, Mile 12, was also a senior auditor at Redstar Express, a courier service company.
According to Police authorities, armed men stormed the estate around 2.55am and robbed two houses before attacking Olawuwo’s house.
A senior police officer, who spoke to our correspondent on the condition of anonymity, said, “We were told that around 2.55am, robbers attacked the estate and started shooting indiscriminately. Olawuwo was said to have hidden inside the ceiling of his house.
“The robbers probably thought he had hidden a gun in the ceiling and ordered him to come down but before he could do so, they shot him and he fell down. Before he could stand up, they stabbed him in the stomach and his intestines were ripped out.”
PUNCH Metro learnt that the victim, who was also the president of the estate residents association, was in his 50s.
Police Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, who confirmed the incident to our correspondent on the telephone, said the matter was being investigated at the Ibafo Police Division.
Adejobi said the police were able to intercept the robbers and kill one of them.
He said, “When policemen heard the shooting, they moved down to the scene and engaged the robbers in a gun battle. One of the robbers was killed in the process, while the others escaped with bullet wounds.
“The corpses have been transferred to the Sagamu General Hospital and investigations are ongoing. We also call on members of the public, especially hospitals, to alert the police of anybody seen with bullet wounds within the area.”
Meanwhile, PUNCH Metro learnt that some estates located off the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway have been experiencing robberies recently.
PUNCH Metro had reported last week that a gang of 20 robbers stormed Ascon Trailer Park tying up the policemen on duty and stealing an undisclosed sum of money.
It was also learnt that three weeks ago, robbers attacked Brentefield Estate, Oke Afa, Magboro, and robbed from house to house for several hours before fleeing.
