A
Magistrate Court in Osogbo, the Osun State capital, has remanded Pastor
Julius Adepoju in prison for allegedly stabbing a fellow pastor to
death.
The suspect was accused of stabbing
Pastor Julius Oguntoye of The Apostolic Church Nigeria, in the Oke Ola
area of Gbongan in Osun State to death.
PUNCH Metro had published the
story of Adepoju, who allegedly stabbed his colleague, Oguntoye to death
because the latter “was using my glory.”
The Police Prosecutor, Mr. Oladoye
Joshua, told the court on Thursday that the accused person used a
knife to stab Oguntoye after an argument had ensued between them.
The prosecution told the court that the
accused person was responsible for the untimely death of Oguntoye,
stressing that the offence committed was against the law of the land.
He said, “The accused person committed
an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 319 (1) of the
Criminal Code Cap 34 Vol. ii, Law of Osun State of Nigeria, 2003.”
But counsel for the accused person, Mrs. Nnenna Ngwu, prayed the court to admit his client to bail.
The Magistrate, Mr. Adebayo Lasisi, ordered that the suspect be remanded in prison.
He held that the offence allegedly
committed by the accused person was a capital offence. He adjourned the
case till March 7, 2014 for mention.
It will be recalled that the deceased
was buried on Monday at his residence in Ede. He was said to have worked
at TAC, Ede for about 12 years before he was transferred to Gbongan
where he was killed by Adepoju.
Tributes poured in for the deceased whom many described as loving and dedicated to the calling of God during his lifetime.
Adepoju was said to be Oguntoye’s friend
and the accused person was said to be the best man to the deceased when
he got married some years ago.
Adepoju was said to be a pastor at TAC until he pulled out to start his own church about 10 years ago.
The gruesome murder of Oguntoye, who was
48 years, was a shock to his wife and children, one of whom was said to
be present where their dad was stabbed to death at his residence.
