Delta Assembly walks out lawmaker for improper dressing

Delta Assembly walks out lawmaker for improper dressing

For dressing improperly to proceedings yesterday, members of the Delta State House of Assembly (DSHA), wielded the big stick on Hon. Keston Okoro, representing Udu constituency. Okoro was ordered out of the hallowed chamber of the House for wearing low waist trousers.
The indecent dressing was pinpointed by the Chairman of the House Committee on Finance and Appropriation, Hon Daniel Mayuku, representing Warri South-West constituency before the House unanimously upheld it.
The Speaker, Rt. Hon. Peter Onwunsanya, who enforced the order by asking the lawmaker to leave the chamber until he was properly dressed, wondered why an elected officer reduced himself to a ‘ruffian’.

Mayuku said that the sitting position of the lawmaker and his mode of dressing fell short of the rules and regulations of the House on mode of dressing by legislators.
The lawmaker’s observation was corroborated by the Chairman, House Committee on Information, Hon Johnson Erijo, who said the action was in line with Rule 57 (11) of the House.
He said: “The rule stipulates that when a member is not properly dressed, he should be sent out until he does the needful. “My dear Honourable Speaker and honourable members of this House, as honourable members we are here to work according to the rules and regulations of this House.
Therefore, let me draw your attention to the sitting position of the member representing Udu constituency and to say his mode of dressing is a total disrespect to this honourable House.
“Our mode of dressing should depict us as responsible members of the House representing the people in our respective constituencies.”
Before ordering him out, the Speaker said a member should come to sittings properly dressed.
He said: “What Mayuku observed and highlighted was in the right direction. So, Hon. Okoro, can you excuse us?”
