The suspects are a 40-year-old Pere Ugbozuwa identified as secretary to the militants; Audu Tony (39); Ifeanyi Eze (29) and Ojogo Ezekiel (23). Also, the police nabbed two suspected pipeline vandals, Olamilekan Akinyemi and Ramon Mudashiru, with fourteen 200-litre drums and several jerry cans of petrol.
The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Olumuyiwa Adejobi, said the suspects were apprehended during separate operations between Friday and Saturday. Adejobi, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, restated the commitment of the police command towards tackling pipeline vandalism in the state. According to him, a special operation coordinated by the state Commissioner of Police, Abdulmajid Ali, led to the arrest of the four members of the militant group.
The PPRO noted that the suspects had been responsible for killings, destruction of pipelines as well as other criminal acts at Arepo area for years. He said: “The command had deployed men from the Special Anti- Robbery Squad, Police Mobile Force, Safer Highway and Anti-Crime teams from various sections of the command to attack the hoodlums in the creek with two armoured personnel carriers (APCs).”
Adejobi, who said the suspects were under interrogation at the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), Abeokuta, disclosed that they have made useful statements that would assist the officer- in-charge to carry out thorough investigation and make more arrests.
On the two suspected vandals, the PPRO said the operatives of the Quick Response Squad (QRS) of the command arrested them near the Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministry on Lagos- Ibadan Expressway on Saturday.
He said a blue Ford bus with registration number Lagos MUS 887 XF was also recovered from the suspects. Adejobi quoted Ali as warning recalcitrant vandals, who operate at Ogunmakin, Onimaalu, Ogere, Ibafo, Ijebu-Ode, Simawa and Ogijo areas, to desist or risk being arrested and prosecuted.
He added: “Ali therefore wishes to appeal to residents of Arepo and affected areas where these elements have been terrorising to be calm and support the police in this battle against the criminals who are sabotaging Nigeria’s economy.”http://newtelegraphonline.com/arepo-six-arrested-vandalism/
