JTF arrests top member of kidnapping gang in Aba

The Joint Task Force involved in the ongoing military operation in the South East tagged, ‘Atilogwu Udo,’ has arrested a member of kidnapping gang terrorising Aba and its environs in Abia State.

The suspect was arrested at a location off the city center by the JTF attached to the 14 Brigade Headquarters of the Nigerian Army, Ohafia, Abia State.

According to a reliable military source, the suspect was a member of the gang that kidnapped a mother and her daughter last week along Umuocham road in Osisioma Ngwa Local Government Area. The abduction shocked Abia State, including security agents.

The source added: “A military camouflage was also recovered from the home of the suspect where he was picked up. Recall that last week, four kidnappers, armed with pump-action, cornered and kidnapped mother and daughter. The mother took advantage of a traffic situation to jump out of the car while it was on motion. The kidnappers drove away with the daughter.  We learnt that the kidnappers later released the daughter, but we didn’t know if any ransom was paid before the girl was released. It could be that they knew that we were on their trail and quickly released the girl. We were able to track one of them to a location near Ariaria. By the time we got there, we met a military camouflage on the cushion, covered in sweat. It was an indication that the wearer had just entered into the house not quite long before our arrival.”

The source further disclosed: “We were able to arrest a young man who was inside the house. He’s currently being interrogated. After which we will hand him over to the appropriate security agency for further investigation and prosecution."

The source urged members of the public to provide them with useful information over the activities of hoodlums or suspected kidnappers.
