Official of
the Lagos State Neighbourhood Security Corps and Policemen from Ejigbo
Police Station have been able to rescue a 21-year-old student of the University
Of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN) just as he was about to take his life.
The victim, Obasi
Augustine Chukwuemeka, of No 4, Alaba Street, Ejigbo bus stop , a
student of UNN, Enugu campus.

was said to have already tied a rope in a loop and connected it to the ceiling
fan in their sitting room, in preparation for committing suicide before he was
rescued
The Lagos
State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Bala Elkana, said that on January
7, at about 8:29am, an officer of Lagos State Neighbourhood Security Corps,
alerted Ejigbo Police Station that the young man, later identified as
Chuckuemeka, a student of UNN, Enugu campus, tied a rope to a ceiling fan
in preparation for committing suicide because he was scolded by his parents.
Elkana
added: “Swift response by operatives from Ejigbo Police Station prevented him
from killing himself. He was rescued and taken to hospital for medical
examination. Investigation is ongoing.”
In another
development, the police have arrested a car wash operator for killing his
neighbour over locking of house gate. Elkana noted that the incident occurred
on January 11, at Itire.
His words: “Faith
Elebo of No 32 Ola Street reported at Itire Police Station that at about 1:30pm,
Sheriff Balogun, 35, who lives in the same compound with them had a fight with
her father, Peter Elebo, about when to close their compound gate. Sherif
Balogun pushed Peter Elebo down, who started vomiting blood and died on the
spot. Homicide detectives led by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge
of Itire Police Station, a Superintendent of Police (SP), Barkfur Kromkyes,
visited the scene. Corpse of the deceased was evacuated to mortuary for
autopsy. The suspect was arrested and transferred to State Criminal Intelligence
and Investigations Department (SIID), Panti, Yaba, for discreet investigation
and prosecution.”
