Bank robbers storm Lagos, kill two policemen, injure three

A 15-man gang of bank robbers today stormed a new generation bank at the College Road area of Lagos State, killing two policemen.
Three other policemen were also said to have been critically injured in the clash between the policemen and the robbers.
The wounded policemen were rushed to the hospital, where they are currently battling to stay alive.
This attack was coming barely two days after police command arrested a gang of robbers connected with the attacking of the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, twice.  In the second attack, the robbers killed two policemen and injured several citizens.


Banking customers were yesterday morning turned away by the bank management, who implored to use another branch of the bank.
In the today bank robbery at Ogba, one of the slain policemen has been identified as Nafiu. He was said to have been attached to the Rapid Response Squad (RSS).
The bank robbers, who a police source apparently attacked the bank based on insider's connection, carted away unascertained amount of money.
The robbers, numbering over 15 engaged the police in a gun duel which lasted for an hour, claimed an eye witness.
It was gathered that the gun battle between the police and robbers was fierce.
The bandits were said to have attacked the bank around 3:30am and were challenged by policemen attached to the bank.
A team of RRS officers , who were on routine patrol along the road , raced to the scene of the robbery , only to be attacked by the armed robbers , who shot at their patrol van.
When the smoke from the blazing guns cleared, two policemen had been killed, while three were injured.
Police spokesperson, Ngozi Braide, confirmed the robbery, but refused to say on if any policeman was killed. She also stated that the police had begun investigations into the incident and assured residents of the state that the robbers would be soon be arrested.
