No fewer than 15 people died on Friday near Gusau, Zamfara State, following a head-on collision involving three vehicles.
According to eye witnesses, the accident occurred around 1:00 a.m. on the Gusau/Zaria road.
The accident, it was gathered, was caused by an articulated vehicle (Daf truck) which was wrongly parked at Damba area on the outskirts of the town.
The state Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Mr Ibrahim Abubakar, confirmed the incident.
Abubakar said that two articulated vehicles and a Mitsubishi Canter truck collided and rammed into the wrongly parked vehicle.
He said that 15 persons died while five others were left with various degrees of injuries.
The commander said that his officers and a police patrol team carried out the rescue operations as soon they received information about the accident.
He further added that both the injured and the deceased were taken to the Yarima Bakura Specialist Hospital, Gusau, for medical examination and treatment.
According to him, relations of some of the deceased persons had been contacted in Katsina State.
The commander appealed to motorists to always ensure that they parked their vehicles properly and use indicators to prevent other road users from falling victims of such fatal accidents.
