Community jubilates as police kill 3 suspected robbersOrisunbare Community, located at the Akowonjo area of Egbeda, Lagos State, jubilated as three suspected armed robbers were shot dead by men of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS).
The yet to be identified robbers met their sad end after they snatched three vehicles; Toyota Corolla, Camry and Jeep from Ikeja axis, at gun point and escaped.
Information gathered that the six man armed robbery gang drove in a convoy and headed to Orisumbare and stopped at a popular amala joint to eat and drink.
Unknown to them, the Toyota Camry they snatched had a tracking device.
Investigation further revealed the owner of the snatched car had immediately contacted SARS who trailed the car, through the tracker to the joint where the car was parked.
An eye witness said the police team headed by the team leader, inspector Adigun did not struck immediately at the joint to avoid casualty.
The team members positioned themselves and waited for the bandits to finish their meal.
After they finished eating and drinking, and were about to drive the stolen cars from the eatery, the SARS men attacked.
Three of them were killed, while one of the suspected robbers was shot on the leg and is currently detained at SARS at Ikeja.
Two of the stolen vehicles were recovered, while their leader, identified as Wale, escaped with the Jeep which was riddled with bullets. A cut down to size pistol was also recovered.
The residents, who were happy at the success of the operation of SARS men, informed the police that the base of the suspected robbers was at a snooker joint in the area. They further told the police that the snooker joint was where the bandits used to hang out and smoke before going for operations.
The police also dislodged the joint and arrested the owner who is currently undergoing interrogation at SARS.
The Baale of Orisumbare, High Chief Akeeb Raufu, who confirmed the incident, commended the SARS men for their professionalism in the operation.
“The SARS men who came to that operation did well because they went for their target and no other life was not lost nor residents injured,” said the Baale.
He noted that his area had been peaceful until this recent incident and promised to educate and engage the youths in meaningful ventures so that they would not go into crime and other ill vices.
