A 28-year-old woman, Taiwo Madamidola,
and one Ajayi Oluwasegun, 40, have been remanded in prison custody for
the alleged murder of a 15-year-old boy, Michael Gbore.
The two suspects were arraigned before an Ebute Meta Magistrate’s Court, Lagos State, on three counts of murder.
The police said while Madamidola was biting the deceased, Oluwasegun was hitting him with his hand till he dropped dead.
The woman’s bites were said to have inflicted injuries on the deceased’s body.
The incident was said to have happened on Igando Street, in the Abesan Estate area of the state.
It was however not clear what late Gbore did to the duo to warrant the attack.
The investigating police officer, Ali
Uwensuri, said the defendants were arrested in the Ipaja area of Lagos
shortly after the incident.
Uwensiri, however, in a remand request
added that the police could not find any exhibit or fingerprint
evidence, just as the defendants also denied commiting the crime.
He said the police were relying on witnesses accounts.
The three counts read in part, “That you,
Ajayi Oluwasegun and Taiwo Madamidola, on November 16, 2013 at 7pm at
4, Igando Street, off Abosede Aro Road, Amosu, Abesan Estate, Lagos in
the Lagos Magisterial District, did conspire among yourselves to commit
felony to wit; murder.
“That you, Taiwo Madamidola, did unlawfully kill one Michael Gbore, by inflicting tooth bite injuries on him.”
The prosecutor, Inspector Richard Odige,
said the offence was punishable under sections 231 and 221 of the
Criminal Law of Lagos State, Nigeria 2011.
The defendant’s plea was not taken.
Odige thereafter applied for the remand
of the defendants in prison pending legal advice from the Directorate of
Public Prosecution.
The magistrate, Mrs Demi Ajayi, ordered
the remand of the defendants in prison till January 22, 2014 when the
case would be for mention.
She urged the police to duplicate the case file to facilitate the early release of the DPP’s advice.
