Police yesterday disclosed that abductors of Rev. Fr. John Adeyi of
the Catholic Diocese of Oturkpo killed him a day before they collected a
N1.5 million ransom.
The Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), Mr. Don
Awunah, a Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), made the disclosure
during the parade of four suspects at the Force Headquarters. This was
as the deputy leader of the gang, Saidu Abdullahi, who confessed to
firing the fatal shot, said that he was “destined to kill the priest”.
Apart from Abdullahi, other members of the killer-gang paraded, were
Suleiman Gina (gang leader), Aliyu Garba, and Haruna Idi. Adeyi, who was
the parish priest of St. Bernard’s Parish, Okpoga, was killed on April
24.
His decomposing body was found about two months after his murder.
According to the FPRO, the suspects were arrested by the Intelligence
Response Team attached to the Inspector General of Police (IGP)
monitoring unit, between September 1 and 14.https://newtelegraphonline.com/catholic-priest-killed-n1-5m-ransom-police/
