The Nigerian
Army, 2 Brigade, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, on Tuesday, January 16, 2018 handed over
some suspected illegal oil transporters and three tankers loaded with petroleum
products suspected to be Automotive Gas Oil, AGO (diesel) to the Economic and
Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, for further investigation and possible
prosecution.
The tankers with
registration numbers: AKP 222 XA; BNS 298 XA and AKP 224 XA were each loaded
with over 33,000 (thirty three thousand) litres of the suspected AGO, with no
conveyance waybill accompanying them.
At the
point of arrest, two of the drivers escaped while one, by name, Bello Ibrahim,
was arrested alongside his motor-boy, Babangida Adamu, and one Godwin Etim
who claimed to be a member of the community with no real ties to either the
transporters or the owner of the product.
It was gathered that
Etim was the one who directed the suspects to the waterside at Enugu Fishing
Terminal in Mbo Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, where they loaded the
product before the long arm of the law caught up with them.
The suspects will be
arraigned in court as soon as investigation is concluded.
