Officials of the National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have
arrested four suspected drug peddlers Adamawa State with 708.2 kilograms
of assorted illicit substances.
The drugs included 25.6kg of cannabis skunk compressed in 24 pallets.
The state NDLEA Commander, Yakubu Kibo, disclosed this while briefing
journalists in his office in Yola yesterday.
He said: “Cannabis skunk is a species of cannabis plant that is more
potent than the popular cannabis
sativa because it is three to four
times stronger with devastating mental consequences for users.” Kibo
said the NDLEA operatives discovered the drugs inside a luxury bus going
from Lagos to Yola “near welcome to Yola gate” on January 19.
The commander expressed optimism that with the arrests and seizures,
the command had recorded tremendous breakthrough in dismantling the
syndicate bringing cannabis skunk and other illicit substances into the
state.
He described the increase of commercial vehicles in trafficking drugs
as a disturbing trend, saying from January 2017 till date, no fewer
than 10 vehicles had been impounded in connection with drug trafficking.
He called on the owners of private and commercial vehicles not to
entrust their vehicles to people of questionable characters as any
vehicles found culpable in concealing illicit substances might be
forfeited to the Federal Government.
According to him, the command is also worried about the increasing number of women in drug trafficking.
“Two ladies are in our custody in connection to drug offenses,” he
added. Kibo appealed to parents to closely monitor their children and
wards to guide them against involvement in drug trade which might send
them to jail.
