Lagos government arrests 10 riders, impounds 120 motorcycles

Lagos State government yesterday impounded 120 motorcycles and arrested 10 riders at Second Rainbow bus-stop, Mile 2 and Ijesha area.
The Chairman Lagos State Task Force, SP Olayinka Egbeyemi, said that enforcement operations were carried out after several warnings to motorcycle operators to desist from operating on restricted routes, particularly on highways and bridges across the State.
Egbeyemi said that illegal activities of these motorcycle riders were on the increased as they now constitute public nuisance around Second Rainbow towards Mile 2 and Ijesha Bus-stop.
Egbeyemi said: “Some of them harassed innocent members of the public at various bus-stops while others engaged in all sorts of criminal acts by dispossessing their passengers of valuables materials such as phone, jewelries and bags.”
Egbeyemi advised motorcycle riders to properly screened out criminals amongst their membership and educate others to stop plying any of the restricted 375 routes which includes highways and bridges across the State.
He also enjoined private powerbike 200cc above operators, particularly corporate bodies to warn their dispatched riders to stop engaging in illegal commercial activities as anyone caught violating any sections of the Lagos State Road Traffic Laws of 2012 would be prosecuted.  He said that all 120 impounded motorcycles would be crushed and 10 arrested riders would be charged to court.
