Military arrests suspected herdsmen for cattle rustling


The Special Military Task Force also known as Operation Safe Haven (OPSH), in charge of internal security in Plateau State, has arrested three suspected herdsmen in connection with cattle rustling at Bisichi, in Heipang community of Barkin-Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State.


Chief of staff of the Operation Safe Haven, Brigadier General AM Bello, who issued a Press statement on behalf of the Commander Operation Safe Haven, said the suspected gang leader escaped and is already being trailed.

He said the suspects were arrested for rustling cattle belonging to their fellow Fulani herdsmen.

According to the release: "On January 19, around 3:30pm, following a tip-off by a member of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association, OPSH troops arrested four persons involved in rustling cattle at Bisichi in Heipang area of Barkin-Ladi LGA. The suspects include Mr. Adamu Muhammed, 18, Tanimu Usman, 24, Abdullranhan Muhammed, 15 and Dawa Dalyop 32. They were arrested for buying the rustled cattle.”

He explained that Commander of the OPSH has deployed troops to Barkin-Ladi and Bassa Local Government Areas to trail the dealers of the rustled cattle and other crimes.

The command appreciates the traditional rulers, community and religious leaders in Barkin-Ladi, Riyom and Bassa Local Government Areas for their continual cooperation and support in arresting cattle rustlers and criminals in the state.
