Soldiers kill Akwa Ibom most wanted criminals

Troops of 2 Brigade, Nigerian Army yesterday killed the leader and members of a notorious killer squad terrorising Ukanafun and Etim Ekpo local government areas of Akwa Ibom State.
Assistant Director, Public Relations, 2 Brigade, Uyo, Major Umar Shuaib, told journalists that the gang leader, Akaninyene Uko alias Isoakpaefid, and his members were killed when troops invaded the hideout of the gang at Ikpe village in Etim Ekpo Local Government Area and engaged the hoodlums in a gun battle.

Shuaib explained that the troops also killed two members - Aniebet Udoh said to be the second in command to Isoakpaefid and Thankgod Friday who was the spiritualist to the kingpin - while the remaining escaped with gunshot wounds.
Items recovered the gang include one pump action gun, two locally-made short guns, 13 live cartridges, eight expended cartridges, two Dane guns and two cutlasses. Their bodies have been deposited at University of Uyo Teaching Hospital mortuary.
“The culprit was known for terrorising the inhabitants of Ukanafun Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State and perpetrated the killings of two policemen and a truck driver in Ukanafun Local Government Area on November 17 last year.
“They (the gang members) also masterminded the killing of a state commissioner’s sister and two others in Ikot Oko Osun community in Ukunafun Local Government Area on November 19, 2017. The suspects have been evading arrest after the incidents,” Shuaib said.
He added that the Commander, 2 Brigade, Nigerian Army, Brigadier General Abdu Ibrahim Hassan, had assured law-abiding citizens that the brigade would do everything within its powers to protect their lives and property.
Hassan also solicited the people’s support and cooperation by reporting any form of crime to appropriate security agencies.
